About the Oil Pump and Oil Filter

The oil pump is typically located below the crankshaft, it concentrates pressurised oil into circulation throughout the engine, lubricating the bearings, the pistons, the camshaft, and more. The engine needs the lubrication of oil in order to maintain the right temperature and to function with ease and minimal noise. But before the oil reaches the engine's components, it is filtered. The pressurised oil, in it's initial unclean state, is forced through the holes at the base plate of the filter, where it proceeds through the filter media to be cleansed. The oil will flow through the central tube, and will then circulate to the engine parts. But if the oil is too cold, for example, it won't be able to pass through the filter holes which consequently increases the amount of pressure. At that point, the bypass valve will open, allowing the oil to pass through uncleaned, until the oil heats up, which causes its consistency to thin, and thus regain its ability to pass through the filter holes.
